Being off-line is a pain
Being off-line means things have gone wrong and sometimes they create additional problems we have no control over. Last week our Directory was off-line due hacking of the hosting companies web servers. We take security seriously and have implemented SSL ( Secure Sockets Layer) which means you will see https in our address details. This could not prevent the actual web server being hacked.
With very sophisticated firewalls and anti-virus software in place, the hosting company servers were temporary breached. There will always some hacker testing the defences. All you would have seen was a black screen.
We hold a number secure copies of the Business Directory off-line, so all the data is protected. Naturally like any responsible website owner, we update to the latest version of software.
We did receive a very nice apology from the hosting companies technical support department, so that help. We have made the decision to move the website to a hosting company nearer to Northampton. This has the benefit of faster page loadings and better support.
